The Homeowners of this stunning Toorak property approached Period Extensions & Designs to undertake renovations and add an extension to the rear of their property.

The brief was simple – provide more open space, renovate the home, restore its original features and add a new modern and spacious extension at the rear. Our new timeless design incorporated modern luxury and functionality whilst restoring the existing grand period features of the home.

As you walk down the expansive original hallway with decorative cornices and enter the new open-plan living area your eyes are immediately drawn to the striking large window that is the perfect spot for settling in and reading your favourite book.

As most homeowner’s love to entertain, our design incorporates a spacious open-plan living/kitchen area featuring a large island bench, Miele appliances and a butler’s pantry. This area has natural light streaming in and large double doors opening out to a beautiful new alfresco area, which we were also tasked with creating. This area is sheltered and perfect for entertaining and for having that indoor-outdoor lifestyle.

The ground floor Master Bedroom was modernised with the addition of a walk-in-robe and a light-filled ensuite that features electronically operated highlight windows. To the Homeowner’s delight, we also discovered and restored a beautiful fireplace dating back to when the house was first built, hidden behind the plaster in the bedroom.

We added a new central bathroom with a Velux skylight to let in an abundance of light to this space. Additionally, we removed the carpet from the staircase and polished the stairs to showcase the original timber and painted the balustrade white so that it would blend in with the white-painted walls. The stairs take you up to a bedroom and a sunroom that has been renovated with cupboards built into the roof space to create more space and functionality.

We were also tasked with creating a functional laundry with modern features.

Throughout the project, we replicated the stunning period architraves, cornices, and skirting boards to truly showcase all of the original features.

This home now boasts large open spaces filled with natural light and modern touches throughout.
