Glen Iris

The Brief

The Owners loved where they lived in a tranquil tree-lined street in the leafy eastern suburb of Glen Iris, conveniently close to some of Melbourne’s elite schools, excellent shopping villages, public transport in all directions and many beautiful parks and gardens.

Whilst the 1920s solid brick double storey residence had some truly beautiful rooms to the front of the home, the living conditions to the rear left them increasingly frustrated. The previous dated renovations had resulted in less than ideal living areas with little connection between rooms, dark awkward spaces and not enough room for family and friends to comfortably live and entertain in.

The Owners’ greatest wishes were to have harmonious, light-filled open living areas effortlessly flowing to each other and linked to outdoors and for the upstairs childrens’ wing to be more welcoming and open.

They also yearned for a home where they could enjoy garden and pool vistas from generous living areas where they could entertain with ease and of which they could be intensely proud.

The Challenges

The Owners’ stipulation not to overbuild on their land, but to leave them with as much garden as possible and room for a pool required clever thinking and design.

This resulted in a sensitive reworking of space within the existing home requiring less intrusion into the garden, thereby achieving their specific requirements.

The Result

This is now a stunningly beautiful, warm and welcoming home.

The existing ground floor footprint has been stylishly reorganised to achieve wonderful living spaces that the family loves and that is perfect for all their entertaining needs.

The first floor extension has created more living space for their children and friends, in particular an inspired raised cubby area providing yet another enchanting space to enjoy.

Quality features & finishes have been employed throughout, adding to its stylish look and feel.
